Pens win, Pitt stinks...

The Pens won 5-4 over the hated Habs of Montreal last evening in the gizzly white north of Canada. Geno had 3 points, and Bugsy Malone and Sergei Gonchar each netted one in front of the sellout crowd.

Bugsy on the rampage...

It was good to see us beat a good team in Montreal, and even better that we did it with Danny Boy in net. I think when Sid gets back this team is going to be an absolute juggarnaut. They're looking good just at the right time, and hopefully, the addition of a scoring winger (they haven't made a trade yet but certainly could use one) can put them over the top - let's face it, if we have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, it will be a huge edge because we play excellently at home. Make sure you check Mondesi's House early next week as me and Diego's newest top 10 list hits on the Pens trade needs...

I didn't see much of the Pitt game as the Pens were nunmber one on my list, but as I (regrettably) kinda expected, they lost to ND. Apparently ND went on a three point rampage, which is to be expected, and those Irish bastards kept their 34 game home winning streak in tact.

Duquesne also got killed last night. Xavier (number 10 in the country) wiped the court with them, but hey, they're still having one helluva season.

And finally, since we've never mentioned them, I figured it's time for us to give some props to Robert Morris, who won their tenth in a row yesterday. Good job boys, keep making PGH proud...

Link's N'at

Steelers re-up’d Travis Kirschke with a two year deal. Knowing them, this will the Steelers big time free agent signing this off-season.

According to the crypt keeper aka John Clayton the Steelers are the 4th best drafting franchise in the NFL.

All 67 players on the Pirates roster in Spring Training this year. Hey that’s 1 Bucco for every win the team will get this season!

As I previously mentioned Geno Malkin took over the NHL points lead last night. I found this story over at Fanhouse about Alex Ovechkin and how he is currently dating this hottie. Now Malkin has the point lead in the NHL he needs a new hottie to have draped on his arm...

Disgraced reality star and PN@ favorite Dog “The Bounty Hunter” is set to return to his show on A&E.

For the drinkers out in Internet land, there is a new bar opening up tonight. Come check it out. The bar is called Hough’s and is located at 563 Greenfield Ave. in the Greenfield area of Pittsburgh (bordered by Sq Hill and Oakland). There will be good food, hot chicks, and cheap drinks… not too shabby. And lets not forget that at least one half of PN@ will be there, Diego.

Third Time’s a Charm

After two periods last night the Pens were looking down and out against the Florida Panthers. It’s not that they weren’t trying; it seemed more like the Panthers were denying any chances that the Penguins had. The Pens could barely even hold the puck in the Panthers zone during power play opportunities, and also struggled to create scoring chances. After two periods they were losing 2-0, and the situation looked bleak.

The Pens never quit last night though and they finally broke through with a goal from Colby Armstrong with about half way through the last period. Malkin notched an assist on the Colby goal, tying for the league lead in points with former Russian teammate Alex Ovechkin. On the game tying goal, scored by Bugsy Malone, and set up by Whitney and Geno, Malkin took over the league lead in points. Just when you thought the Pens were down and out they tied the game, and with less than 30 seconds left to play Bugsy bum rushed the net and scored the game winner… no over time tonight just party time!

It’s a celebration people

Big comeback win for the Pens at home as they jump up to a tie atop the Atlantic with the Devils at 73 points. Also, that’s just two points behind the top spot in the Eastern Conference behind both the Senators and Canadians.

Bugsy Malone has looked like a beast in Crosby’s absence (and since having his first born child) and has scored 12 points in his last 10 games, 6 goals and 6 assist’s.

Nice to see TK, Tyler Kennedy, dropping the gloves with Chris Booth last night, even though it was a sneak attack.

Has the fame gone to his head? Since staring in the infamous Penguins car commercial Mad Max Talbot has been pooping in the bed. I really thought Max was going to get that first goal last night, as he had a few quality chances and is even seeing time on the first line with Malkin and Sykora. Hopefully he can increase his scoring production in the near future.

Monday Morning Hangover...

Okay better late then never. Diego had the day off yesterday thanks to President’s day, but now its back to the hustle with another installment of Monday Morning Hangover. We had Pens in action, NBA skills competition, some fighting, and more drama from the world of baseball and steroids.

The highlight of the sports weekend from me was watching the NBA skills competition Saturday night. I hate the NBA and everyone knows that, but I can remember watching the dunk competition when I was just a young lad, then going out to a lowered hoop and attempting the dunks myself (often resulting in scraped up knees and bruised elbows). I could care less about the actual game itself.

The NBA skills competition has regressed in the past few years I will admit, but this year there was a lot hype surrounding the dunk contest. This was due to the fact that Dwight Howard asked for help on his dunk from NBA fans on Youtube, and also because there were rumors he and Rudy Gay would lift up the rim to 12 feet and attempt dunks. Rookie Jamario Moon predicted his own victory (didn’t happen). This kid really has some ups though and he has one hell of a story on how he made it to the NBA. He started off at a community college, played for the Harlem Globetrotters, and numerous minor league teams before making to the Toronto Raptors as a 27 years old rookie.

Howard single-handedly made sure that the dunk contest was entertaining this year; with three of the most creative and impressive dunks I have ever seen in my life. It is hard to pick a favorite, but I would probably go with the one where he ripped off his jersey to expose a Superman shirt underneath. Donning a cape he proceeded to fly through the air (his head above the rim) and throw down the dunk…

Up, Up and Awaaaayyyy!

The Pens got a quality win out of the boys on Sunday evening, with another impressive showing from Geno Malkin and Ty Conklin. Sid the Kid completed his first full practice on Monday since his ankle injury last month. Word has already come down that there will be no Sid tonight, but get ready though folks he should be back in the not too distant future.

Without Sid the Pens have still managed to come within two points of division leader New Jersey Devils. In Sid’s absence Geno Malkin has developed into the best player in the NHL. He simply can’t be stopped right now. The other team knows he is our bread and butter, but so far there has been nothing that they can do about it. Malkin, with 34 goals this year, is currently 14 goals behind fellow Russian Alex Ovechkin, but the way he’s scoring lately, he may catch him real soon.

It is crazy how well the Pens have meshed since losing their captain. It really looks like a whole other team out there at times. Before Sid went down its as if we only had one line doing the scoring, but after his injury the scoring has become more sporadic. This should help Therrien develop more lines with scoring ability and ultimately help the Pens win games in the playoffs.

Don’t miss the Pens tonight at 7:30 at home against the Panthers (PS - it's Jordan Staal bobblehead night)

Geno has good reason to be smiling...

There was also a couple fights that I wanted to see Saturday night, but I missed. First, there was Youngstown’s own Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik and his rematch against Jermaine Taylor. No one got KO’d in this one, like in the first match, but it was still a good fight. Most importantly, The Ghost got the win through a decision. Is Pavlik the next big thing in boxing? His record of 33-0 is impressive.

Also, street acclaimed street fighter and PN@ favorite Kimbo Slice took on a fat, sloppy, and man boobed Tank Abbot. This was Kimbo’s second mixed martial art fight, and he easily knocked out Tank in 43 seconds. Tank never stood a chance in this one, from the moment the bell rung he looked like he was about to crap his pants standing in the ring with the jacked up Slice. Personally I would like to see Kimbo take a shot at Mike Tyson. That would be just pure entertainment at its finest right there!

Fight of the century...

In baseball news, the steroid drama continues… get used to hearing about this all summer long people because you most certainly will be. I am annoyed with it already, people cheat in sports deal with it. The greatest homerun hitter of all time cheated, and now its come to light that one of the best pitchers in the history of the game also is a cheater.

Andy Pettite is snitching on his friend Roger Clemens, and that isn’t right. However people who actually still believe that Clemens didn’t use performance enhancers are morons. Pettitte implicated his own father for supplying him with HGH, so why in the name of Brian McNamee would he lie about Clemens taking the steroids. It doesn’t make too much sense to me at all. Additionally whomever Roger Clemens hired as a defense team needs to be fired. You make over 20 million a year Roger don’t be an idiot, cuz they people that told you to get up there and talk about “misremembering” the past are jag offs.

Quickie for yinz...

Diego is busy at work today, so for the time being I'm gonna fire some links up for ya to keep you occupied...He should have something for ya lata today or tomorrow, and I'm going to throw up a recap of the Pens game later on tonight...

Enjoy, and don't forget to check out our new top 10 list on Mondesi's House...this week's is a good one, and last week's was picked up by Sports Illustrated Online and Deadspin, so we're pretty happy with where it's heading...

(Pic from youthoughtso.com)

YEAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

Here's a link to a new Pens fight song on youtube, brought to you by the Soul Merchants...(thanks for the link guys)

The Pens are back in action tonight against the Panthers...Last game was great, with Ruutu scoring his first goal in a little under a century. We need another strong performance from Conklin, and some more scoring from the likes of Talbot, Armstrong and Taffe would be nice - at least until Sid and old man Roberts get back. Check out the clip below, it's what ole Jarkko is a little more used to doing...

In NBA news, it looks like the on again, off again trade of Jason Kidd to the Mavericks is on again. Basically, the Mavs get Kidd and the Nets get 2 first round picks, Devin Harris, Diop, and a bunch of expiring contracts (plus $3 million)...I dunno how this will help the Mavs seeing as the rest of the West got big men, but we'll see. Kidd is still the best assist man in the league and can play D with the best of them, so maybe Cuban and his boys were just looking for a leader with some toughness (sorry, Dirk)...

The Marlins may have found a use for old Snack... apparently, cheerleaders aren't enough - they want fat guys to go and dance around and make asses out of themselves. Snack is always down to do a little Tootsie Roll for the fans, especially if he's had a few...if you wanna see Snack perform, the best place is Crystal's on Penn Ave...Diego and him are regulars on Friday Kareoke night, so come on down and watch the show. I promise it doesn't disappoint...

Is that Big Snack?

And finally, our boy Cotter over at One for the Other Thumb knows how to blog when the Steelers are off...He made a little top 10 list of his own, and as long as you like the ladies, you should check it out...

Pens win 4-1...

The Pens beat the Sabres 4-1 tonight in Buffalo. It was another outstanding performance from Ty "Who?" Conklin, and Geno Malkin scored again. He's really picked it up since Sid went down, and continues to be near the league lead in points (I hate you Ovechkin).

The hihghlight of the game, however, was Jarkko Ruutu scoring his first goal in 60 games. After being sent off with a minor penalty, Ruutu sprinted out of the box and caught a long pass from Ryan Malone for a breakaway, and finished it off by flipping into the top corner. It was a phenominal play and real game changer.

Until then, it was Buffalo who was the aggressor - they fired 17 shots at Conklin in the first and he turned them all aside. They were poking and provoking our boys, and we played right into it, giving them the first three powerplay opportunities of the game. Luckily for us, those morons from the grizzly north couldn't find the back of the net with a team of Navy SEALS and a flashlight...

(Pic from answers.com)

Buffalo is in Canada right?

Big Snack's three stars for the game have to be Geno as the third, Ruutu as the second, and Conklin as the first.

We're still right in the thick of things as far as the playoffs go, but the margin for error gets smaller every day - I for one am as happy as a fat kid (Snack) in a candy store that Sid and Gary will be back soon...

And sorry for not posting as much as usual last week - it was a busy week for us, but we'll be back to our normal style this week...

Until lata...
